Ribbon Scanning

Ribbon scanning is a process in which a film is scanned edge-to-edge so there is total capture which prevents lost images, improperly cropped pages and re-scans. By capturing each roll of microfilm as a continuous ribbon, which includes all empty spaces between images, IImage Retrieval is able to run through the roll as many times as needed to properly detect frames and adjust for things like cropping and density shifts.

Microfiche Scanning Process

Upon receiving the fiche in our DFW location, Image Retrieval prepares them for production and inventories them, checking that the indexes are correct. Each fiche is captured using the ribbon scanning technique which guarantees 100% capture of images through edge-to-edge scanning. Then, Image Retrieval detects each individual frame, with frame boundaries easily redrawn with the click of a mouse. Images go through QA / QC before output with features such as cropping, deskew, and gamma, so there are no mistakes in the final output. The processed images and rolls are then returned to you with the guarantee of 100% frame capture. Uncompressed images are also available upon request.
